Written Answers. - Official Engagements.

John Perry

Question:

66 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the visits she has undertaken and the discussions she has held with her Northern Ireland counterpart; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2801/99]

Since my appointment as Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, I have made two visits to the North of Ireland.

In August 1997, I attended a question and answer forum in St. Louis's school on the Falls Road as part of the West Belfast community festival. In July 1998, I met with representatives of the Northern Ireland Arts Council, the Ulster Museum, UTV and the local arts community.

In September 1998, I had a meeting with Dr. Mo Mowlam in Dublin at which a range of topics were covered, including a joint North/South Millennium celebration; Irish language promotion, North and South; co-operation and co-ordination of the Arts, North and South; Inland Waterways; and broadcasting (mainly in the context of extending the reception of Irish broadcasting services in the North).
