82 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the position regarding payment of an islander allowance as committed to in An Action Programme for the Millennium; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2805/99]

The question of a special islander allowance is under active consideration having been discussed with the relevant authorities and by the interdepartmental committee on the islands, the Gaeltacht and the Irish language.
