Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Great Southern Hotel Group.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

90 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the situation within her Department with regard to recent media reports on the future of the Great Southern Hotels; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2904/99]

Last August I asked the chairman of Aer Rianta to carry out a review of the full range of development options for the company and to reflect on what might be the most appropriate direction for Aer Rianta in the years ahead. The review, which the company commenced immediately, also encompasses the Great Southern Hotel Group which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aer Rianta.

I expect Aer Rianta to report to me with the results of its work within one month. Until I have received that report and considered its recommendations, it would not be helpful or appropriate for me to speculate as to the likely outcome in respect of the Great Southern Hotel Group or indeed of Aer Rianta itself.
