Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Armed Robberies.

John Bruton

Question:

109 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on a report (details supplied) that the attempted £0.5 million armed robbery at Dalkey, County Dublin, was carried out by the Provisional IRA, that the operation had been planned months in advance and was of a scale beyond the known capabilities or track record of the Continuity IRA and the Real IRA. [3153/99]

The investigation by the Garda authorities into the armed robbery of a security van in Dalkey, County Dublin on 4 January is ongoing.

At this stage of the Garda investigation, no conclusions have been reached by the investigating gardaí regarding the involvement of any specific subversive or criminal group. Recent claims made in the media that the Garda or the Government are in any way seeking to suppress knowledge of PIRA involvement in this robbery are totally without foundation.
