Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

110 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if an urgent decision will be taken on the part funding of a sports hall for Collinstown Park community college under the young peoples facilities and services fund as recommended by the Clondalkin Development Group in its submission (details supplied) to the national assessment committee. [3113/99]

Plans and proposals under the young people's facilities and services fund are currently being considered by the assessment committee which is chaired by my Department and I understand that recommendations will shortly be made to the Cabinet committee on social inclusion in relation to the funding of projects included in the plans. In the meantime, I am not in a position to comment on any specific proposal within these plans.

However, the Deputy may be aware of a recent announcement by the Taoiseach and the Ministers for Education and Science, the Environment and Local Government and Social, Community and Family Affairs regarding the development of community sports facilities in drug task force areas. In this context, Collinstown Park community college is included among the list of schools where funding will be provided for sports halls which are capable of serving a wider community use.
