Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Special Olympics.

Bernard Allen

Question:

119 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received a strategic plan from the Special Olympics; the funding applied for in this regard; and the funding allocated in 1998 and to be allocated in 1999. [3122/99]

A copy of its strategic plan has been forwarded to the Irish Sports Council by Special Olympics Ireland. The organisation did not apply for funding in respect of strategic planning in 1998, while in 1999 the organisation applied for an amount of £2,530 for this purpose. My Department is considering the 1999 applications from all national governing bodies of sport, including Special Olympics Ireland, having regard to the recommendations of the Irish Sports Council. Decisions on the level of funding to be allocated to these bodies for 1999 will be made shortly.
