Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Immigration Legislation.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

49 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will make a statement on the recent High Court decision on the constitutionality of sections of the Aliens Act, 1935; and if he will ensure that any new procedures introduced as a result of the High Court decision include sufficient safeguards for those threatened with deportation. [3047/99]

The policy of the Government in this matter is as contained in the Immigration Bill, 1999, which was approved by the Government on 2 February 1999, for presentation to the House and circulation to Deputies. The usual arrangements have been put in place for publication of the Bill. I look forward to an early debate on the Bill.
