Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Facilities.

Michael Creed

Question:

95 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children when he proposes to distribute funding for community facilities; if he will confirm receipt of an application from a group (details supplied) in County Cork; and if he will provide financial assistance to the development. [3149/99]

There are a number of applications for funding for community facilities presently under consideration by my Department.

In the specific case, an unsuccessful application for lottery funding was made in 1998 and the organisation has been advised accordingly. Lottery funding of £15,000 in 1996 and £50,000 in 1997 was made available by my Department towards the cost of providing a new premises for the organisation. I also understand that a grant of £50,000 was made available in 1998 by the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs.
It is open to the organisation to submit a further application in respect of 1999 which will be considered on its merits having regard to the overall funding available to me, the number of applications received and also the level of funding previously made available to the organisation in question.
