Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Homeless People.

Richard Bruton

Question:

239 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on the figures from Focus Ireland and the Eastern Health Board on the number of homeless people in Dublin city; which is almost 2,000 including almost 400 homeless children; if he has satisfied himself with the Government's response to the crisis of homelessness in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3539/99]

I refer the Deputy to the reply to Questions Nos. 15 and 60 on 28 January in relation to the number of homeless people in the Dublin area and the measures available to assist homeless people. My understanding is that the Focus Ireland figures relate to the number of people contacting or utilising their homeless services over a period of time. I have no information on the Eastern Health Board's figures which I assume relate to numbers of homeless people under 18 years of age which are the responsibility of the health boards under the Child Care Act, 1991.
