Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Coursing Meetings.

Tony Gregory

Question:

256 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the irregularities, if any, along with standard returns of deaths and injuries to hares, contained in supplementary and ancillary reports submitted by wildlife rangers arising from coursing meetings during the current coursing season. [3285/99]

Reports on visits to coursing meetings by national parks and wildlife ranger staff are normally submitted when the season is completed at the end of February and I will arrange for the information to be supplied to the Deputy as soon as possible after that date. In addition, I have requested that in future coursing reports be submitted as soon as possible after each visit. The Deputy will, of course, appreciate that my primary role in this matter relates to the conservation of the species.
