Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Schools Amalgamation.

John McGuinness

Question:

410 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has considered the proposal for a co-educational school for Thomastown, County Kilkenny, resulting in the amalgamation of the two existing schools; if he will give a positive response to the boards of management who have made a formal application to his Department regarding the proposal; the way in which the proposal can be funded and the way in which the boards of management should proceed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3428/99]

As outlined in my response to Questions Nos. 984 and 988 on 27 January 1999 an application from the boards of management for an amalgamation of the two primary schools in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, is presently under active consideration in the planning section of my Department. When the examination has been completed, contact will be made with the boards of management regarding the details.
