Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Tax Liabilities.

John Perry

Question:

197 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if a waiver or reduction of a tax liability of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will be granted in view of the fact that he had to sell his house to repay outstanding debts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3289/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer was assessed to tax for 1997/1998 in accordance with the return of income and supporting accounts submitted on his behalf by his agent on 13 January 1999. The inspector of taxes was not made aware of any inability on the part of the taxpayer to pay the amount due. If the taxpayer is in difficulty in relation to payment he should contact the local inspector immediately.
