Question:

148 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the amount of money his Department has directly or indirectly spent on the use and promotion of the Irish language in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3854/99]

The expenditure by my Department during the past five years on the use and promotion of the Irish language, including expenditure on Irish language courses and on the advertising of schemes is as follows: 1994 - £2,000; 1995 - £2,200; 1996 - £3,900; 1997 - £1,450; 1998 - £3,000.
