154 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money his Department has directly or indirectly spent on the use and promotion of the Irish language in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3855/99]

The amount of money spent on the use and promotion of the Irish language by my Department in each of the past five years is as follows:

Those costs borne by my Department include the costs of Gaeleagras na Seirbhísi Poiblí, the costs associated with staff attending courses in the Gaeltacht as well as other promotional costs.
