Vol. 500 No. 2

Ceisteanna–Questions. - Ministerial Appointments.

John Bruton

Question:

14 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the bodies to which he made political appointments since his election as Taoiseach; the remuneration for the individuals involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2566/99]

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

15 Mr. Quinn asked the Taoiseach the number of appointments made by him to State boards and agencies since taking office; the criteria used to evaluate these appointments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3397/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 14 and 15 together.

The bodies under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach are the National Economic and Social Council, NESC, the National Economic and Social Forum, NESF, the National Statistics Board, the National Centre for Partnership, the Information Society Commission, the Law Reform Commission and the National Millennium Committee

I do not make appointments to these bodies. With regard to the National Millennium Committee, however, nominations made by the Minister of State, Deputy Séamus Brennan, were approved by the Tánaiste and me. The members are not in receipt of remuneration.
