191 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of occasions on which the staffing schedule for primary and post primary schools was improved over the past seven years; and the date from which each improvement became effective. [3830/99]

The staffing schedule for primary schools was improved on five occasions in the past seven years. These improvements took effect from the beginning of the school years 1992-93, 1994-95, 1995-96, 1997-98 and 1998-99.

Improvements were made to the staffing schedule for second level schools on four occasions in the past seven years, taking effect from the beginning of the school years 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96.

As announced last December, there will be improvements on the staffing of schools which will take effect this September.
