Michael Ring

Question:

193 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when a remedial teacher will be appointed to Killala national school, County Mayo. [3832/99]

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

196 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will provide a remedial teacher for Scoil Naomh Pádraig, Corracrin, Emyvale, County Monaghan. [3835/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 193 and 196 together.

Arrangements are currently being made in my Department to extend the remedial teacher service to all primary schools from September next. As part of this development, primary schools with a pupil teacher ratio of below 10:1, may apply for a service where they can demonstrate the particular needs of their pupils. The remedial needs of Killala national school will be addressed in this context.

I understand that a remedial teacher is currently based in Scoil Naomh Pádraig, Corracrin and providing a service to that school and adjacent schools.
