Vol. 500 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Austin Currie

Question:

86 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science the additional facilities, if any, including a resource teacher, he will provide to Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa, Dublin 15 (details supplied) where there are 28 refugee and asylum seeking children; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3578/99]

I expect to be in a position in the very near future to announce details of a new scheme to help the authorities of national schools, which have enrolled substantial numbers of non-national pupils with English language deficits. Posts which were available under a former scheme which had been established to cater for the language needs of programme refugees will be redeployed and a substantial number of new posts will be created for the new scheme. I assure the Deputy that the needs of Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa will be taken into account when these posts are being allocated.
