Vol. 500 No. 2

Ceisteanna–Questions. - Guided Tours.

John Bruton

Question:

4 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the number of people who visited his Department on public tours in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1730/99]

In 1998, a total of 4,298 people took guided tours of Government Buildings. This compares with 4,126 in 1997, 3,265 in 1996, 6,298 in 1995, 7,743 in 1994, 8,349 in 1993 and 7,842 in 1992, when tours first started.

Does the Taoiseach agree that the number of visitors would increase if there was a more rapid turnover of occupants of the building?

I doubt it. It would certainly have no effect on the tours which take place on Saturday mornings.

We need to change the pictures in the Taoiseach's office in the near future.

Are they not to the Deputy's liking?

John Redmond is on his way back.

We will bring the Deputy on a tour of the Taoiseach's office.
