Vol. 500 No. 6

Written Answers. - Action Against BNFL.

Michael Bell

Question:

24 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will fund the legal action taken by STAD against BNFL, other than for legal work, in respect of research activities; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4575/99]

I refer the Deputy to my response to Questions No. 9 on 10 December 1998 and No. 81 on 10 November 1998.

The further package of assistance approved by Government in December 1997 relating to defined areas of work by the residents' legal team and which I referred to in my reply to these Dáil questions has not yet been accepted by the Dundalk residents.

In my response to Question No. 81 on 10 November 1998, I explained the Government's legal difficulty in providing financial assistance towards the residents' legal costs other than those arising from research work. The position remains unchanged.
