28 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will sanction increases in the charges as recommended in the Price Waterhouse and Coopers report into Aer Rianta's aeronautical charging policy; the amount of benefit arising from the discount of charges operated by Aer Rianta for each participating airline in each of the years from 1990 to date; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Aer Rianta intends to develop a revised charging structure at State airports and engaged Price Waterhouse Coopers to assist. Their proposals are to be completed in March of this year and will be submitted for my approval.
In considering any proposal in relation to airport charges, I will take all relevant factors into account, including the impact any change in the level of charges would have on airlines, and, consequently, on the travelling public. I will also have regard to the prospects of achieving a postponement of the loss of duty free sales within the European Union and to the pressing need to maintain intensive capital investment at Dublin airport, with a view to easing congestion. I will be open to hearing the views of interested parties on this important matter.
