Vol. 500 No. 6

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

Question:

45 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will make the sharing of mobile phone masts obligatory for mobile phone providers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4635/99]

The Interconnection Regulations (SI No. 15 of 1998), which I signed into law last year, promote infrastructure sharing by establishing a dispute resolution procedure under which operators may request the Director of Telecommunications Regulation to intervene to resolve disputes over infrastructure sharing agreements.

I am currently considering the issue of infrastructure sharing in the context of the Telecommunications (Infrastructure) Bill. The final decision on the contents of the Bill will be made in consultation with my Cabinet colleagues.
