Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Jim Higgins – the urgent need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to implement the recommendations of the review group on the probation and welfare service in relation to an increase in the number of probation officers; (2) Deputy Shortall – the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to publish national guidelines for the granting of planning permission for child care facilities; (3) Deputy Lawlor – the pro vision of a permanent library for Lucan; (4) Deputy Sargent – the need for the Minister for Health and Children to immediately end the practice of adding fluoride to the water supply; (5) Deputy Gay Mitchell – the need for a tax or duty concession on a car to be given to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12; (6) Deputy Fitzgerald – the urgent need to improve services for the adult homeless in Dublin; (7) Deputy Killeen – the need to ensure that Shannon Airport's role in balanced regional development in the west is not undermined in the quest for strategic partners for Aer Lingus; (8) Deputy Hayes – the need for the Minister for Education and Science to provide additional educational facilities for St. Killian's senior school, Kingswood, Tallaght; (9) Deputies Theresa Ahearn and Connaughton – the crisis in private agricultural and horticultural colleges due to the non-allocation of capital grants since 1987; (10) Deputy Joe Higgins – the concern over the rapid deployment of genetically modified food products for sale in Ireland; (11) Deputy Stanton – the urgent need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to mediate immediately in the dispute between the ESB and the communities of Cobh, Aghada and Reffeen in County Cork over the ESB's plans to erect further pylons in the area; (12) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe – the availability and location of any files relating to the passports for investment scheme, particularly those between 1988 and 1994, and whether they have been sent to the Moriarty tribunal; (13) Deputy Michael Ahern – the impending unrest in Cork due to the decision by the ESB on the erection of pylons from Aghada to Reffeen; (14) Deputy Rabbitte – the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 395 of 9 February 1999 to the Minister for Education and Science regarding the needs of St. Killian's national school, Kingswood, Dublin 24; (15) Deputy Michael Kitt – that a TV licence should not be required for schools who use televisions for educational purposes; and (16) Deputy Gormley – the Government's failure to protect the Irish consumer in relation to the sale of genetically modified food.

The matters raised by Deputies Jim O'Keeffe, Killeen, Theresa Ahearn and Connaughton and Joe Higgins have been selected for discussion.
