45 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will press Ireland's case during the Agenda 2000 talks to have the butter fat reference level increased from the current figure of 3.58 to the EU average reference of 3.95. [5250/99]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh):

In the discussions on the Agenda 2000 proposals I will seek the best possible result for Irish agriculture. In that context, I will continue to press for the establishment of a more realistic butter fat reference level for Ireland.
