Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Creed

Question:

212 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if a report has been submitted by Cork County Council to the Office of Public Works regarding flood relief works necessary at the river Allow and consequent damage at the village of Freemount in north Cork on 26 August 1997; and when these works will be carried out. [6765/99]

A report on the flooding which occurred in Freemount in August 1997 was submitted to the Office of Public Works by Cork County Council in November 1997. The Office of Public Works' resident engineer for the south west region also compiled a factual report of the flood event at that time. The resources of my office, however, have been and are currently fully committed to the completion of the flood alleviation schemes in the areas nominated for priority under the Arterial Drainage (Amendment) Act, 1995. Consequently, there are no plans, at present, to consider the possibility of a flood relief scheme for Freemount, County Cork.
