Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Funding.

Liz McManus

Question:

242 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the adjustments, if any, made in the 1999 levels of non-capital expenditure for case mix results in hospitals (details supplied). [6820/99]

Thirty acute hospitals throughout the country participate in the casemix budgeting process which adjusts hospitals budgets by reference to the cost and complexity of the hospitals in-patient and day case workload. The 1999 casemix adjustments for the hospitals referred to by the Deputy are as follows:

£

Beaumont Hospital

(515,919)

St. James's Hospital

(144,690)

Mater Hospital

(99,054)

St. Vincent's Hospital

(166,574)

James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown

(76,185)

St. Colmcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown

(40,019)

Note: Negative adjustments are indicated in brackets.
St. Michael's Hospital, Naas General Hospital and the former National Children's Hospital have not participated in the casemix budgeting process to date. The former Adelaide and Meath Hospitals have participated in the past but were omitted from the 1999 casemix budget model for technical reasons associated with the availability of comparable and appropriate cost and activity data in the context of the transfer of services to the new site at Tallaght. It is intended that the Adelaide and Meath Hospitals, incorporating the National Children's Hospital, Tallaght, will rejoin the casemix budgeting process when the necessary cost and discharge data with regard to activity at the new hospital becomes available.
