Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Psychological Services.

Jack Wall

Question:

257 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of psychologists at the National Children's Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin 12; if this is the required number; if not, if he will provide extra funding to the Eastern Health Board regarding the provision of extra personnel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6988/99]

Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, currently has six psychologist posts. I understand from the hospital that it is currently in discussion with hospital clinicians concerning the appointment of an additional psychologist in a temporary capacity.

The Deputy may wish to note that the prioritisation of staffing requirements in any hospital service area is a matter, in the first instance, for the management of that hospital and to date my Department has not received a request from the Eastern Health Board or Our Lady's Hospital regarding the provision of additional funding for this service.
