Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Townscape Restoration Scheme.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

280 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if tax incentives will be included in the proposed townscape restoration scheme for smaller towns; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6806/99]

The townscape restoration scheme which is aimed at the restoration and conservation of townscapes in smaller towns will involve the application of tax incentives. Full details of the proposed scheme will be contained in guidelines which my Department is currently preparing for issue to local authorities to assist them in preparing plans for this new scheme. Local authorities will be asked to submit urban townscape plans by 1 August next and it is my aim to bring the scheme into operation in the autumn.
