Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Liam Aylward

Question:

312 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if finance will be allocated to repair and refurbish Aghaviller monument and round tower in County Kilkenny which are in need of renovation. [6686/99]

Since ownership of Aghaviller monument and round tower was transferred to the State in 1936, routine inspections and maintenance works have been carried out as required. I am not aware that works to the monument are required at present, but will be happy to arrange for an inspection to be undertaken and for any necessary conservation works to be completed as part of the works programme for the Kilkenny National Monuments Depot.

313 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if finance will be allocated towards the repair and refurbishment of the monument at Grangefertagh, Johnstown, County Kilkenny; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6688/99]

Since ownership of Grangefertagh round tower and church was transferred to the State, routine inspections and maintenance works have been carried out as required. I am not aware that works to the monument are required at present, but will be happy to arrange for an inspection to be undertaken and for any necessary conservation works to be carried out as part of the works programme for the Kilkenny National Monuments Depot.
