Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Postal Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

318 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the action, if any, her Department will take to rectify the lack of postal facilites on Clare Island, Louisburgh, County Mayo; the contact if any, she had had with An Post regarding the situation; and, if so, the proposals if any, she has for a replacement post office. [6795/99]

The matter referred to by the Deputy is primarily one for An Post for which the Minister for Public Enterprise is responsible. However as Minister of State with responsibility for the offshore islands I have met An Post to discuss this matter and I understand that it is still being considered by it. An Post has assured me of its continued commitment to the provision of services on the offshore islands and also of its desire to ensure that a post office will be available on Clare Island as soon as possible.

I will be meeting the development committee on 19 March at which this matter will be discussed further.
