Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Traffic Wardens.

Jim Higgins

Question:

345 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 154 of 5 November 1998 the reason the commitment to transfer the traffic warden service from the Garda authorities to Dublin Corporation from 1 February 1999 has not taken place; if it will still go ahead; and, if so, when it will take place. [6603/99]

Tony Gregory

Question:

355 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the terms and conditions of transfer to Dublin Corporation for the traffic wardens from his Department. [6967/99]

Seán Haughey

Question:

361 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the traffic warden service will transfer to Dublin Corporation; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Dublin Corporation proposes to immediately offer many of these traffic wardens voluntary redundancy; his views on whether it would make more sense for his Department to offer these war dens a voluntary redundancy package; if the Government will review this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7024/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 345, 355 and 361 together.

I refer the Deputy to my replies of 2, 3 and 4 March 1999, to Questions Nos. 148, 324 and 118 respectively which set out the current position concerning the transfer of the traffic warden service to Dublin Corporation.

The Deputies will appreciate that the terms and conditions of the employment of the traffic wardens with Dublin Corporation, including the question of any potential voluntary redundancies, are solely matters for the corporation as their future employer.
