Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

365 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a holiday visa has been refused to a person (details supplied); the appeal procedures involved; the mechanism and timescale for a decision on an appeal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7134/99]

The visa application in question was refused because my Department was not satisfied, on the basis of the documentation supplied, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa.

Applicants may appeal against the refusal of a visa writing to the visa appeals officer and may submit further information or documentation in support of their application. A decision on an appeal is normally provided within five working days, unless further inquiries need to be made.

It should be noted, however, that the application in question was in fact appealed and that the original decision to refuse the visa was upheld.
