Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Home-School Liaison Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

413 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of home-school liaison officers in County Mayo; and the schools to which they are assigned. [6801/99]

There is one home-school-community liaison co-ordinator at primary level in County Mayo. This co-ordinator serves the following schools; Scoil Chroí Íosa, Convent Hill, Ballina, County Mayo; Scoil Íosagáin, Convent Hill, Ballina, County Mayo and Scoil Pádraig, Ballina, County Mayo. There is also one home-school-community liaison co-ordinator at second level in County Mayo. This co-ordinator serves St. Mary's secondary school, Convent of Mercy, Ballina, County Mayo.

I recently announced my intention of extending the home-school-community liaison service to all first and second level schools with disadvantaged status. This development, which will be effective from September next, will result in the extension of the service to a further six primary schools and eleven second level schools in County Mayo.
