Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Stag Hunting.

Tony Gregory

Question:

77 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will revoke the licence of the Ward Union Hunt Club pending a decision from the Attorney General in view of the scenes of cruelty depicted on RTE news on 26 January 1999. [3229/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 52 and 147 of February 1999 and Question No. 253 of 9 February 1999 in which I outlined the position in relation to the issue of a licence to the Ward Union Hunt under section 26 of the Wildlife Act, 1976. That licence, which was issued for the current season, will expire on 31 March. I recently received from the Attorney General the advice which I sought in relation to section 26 and I will be fully examining all aspects of the matter in light of this advice.
