Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Heritage and Cultural Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

87 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the extent and cost of commitments entered into by the Government in the past six months in respect of heritage and cultural issues; if her attention has been drawn to any commitments made by the Government in excess of those already outlined; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6862/99]

The Deputy will be aware that there is a provision of almost £200 million in my Department's group of Votes for 1999 to meet, inter alia, the cost of commitments made in relation to heritage and cultural projects. Provisions are also made in the context of my Department's multi-annual budgets for the period to 2001. The Deputy will also be aware of the ongoing multi-annual capital programme funded from EU Structural Funds and Exchequer sources. There are also specific commitments in regard to which work is ongoing in the context of the Government's An Action Programme for the Millennium. The Deputy will appreciate that many commitments are involved and it would be unrealistic to seek to itemise each and every one. If, however, the Deputy has any particular commitment in mind, I would be glad to look into the matter further if he can indicate the specific issue in question.
