Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Jackie Healy-Rae

Question:

126 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding the Caragh River fishery; the development, if any, which has taken place following a recent deputation in this regard; the position regarding the grant money of £167,500 allocated by TAM; and if the owners of the fishing rights have been identified. [6950/99]

The Tourism Angling Measure (TAM) Management Committee approved European Regional Development Fund grant aid of £167,500 in September 1998 towards the acquisition of the Lower Caragh Fishery, subject to the promoters confirming title to the fishery. I am advised that the Central Fisheries Board will advise the applicants of the TAM Management Committee's decision on the matter this week. I have asked the CFB to forward to me as soon as possible a report on the situation in relation to the fishery and I will be glad to brief the Deputy and other interested colleagues as soon as I have that report.
