Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Files.

Jim Higgins

Question:

145 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the files, if any, sought from his Department by the tribunals of inquiry currently sitting. [7268/99]

The tribunal of inquiry, chaired by Mr. Justice Flood, into certain planning matters and payments requested to see a number of files held by my Department and my Department has co-operated fully with this request. However, given that the terms of reference of the tribunal require it to carry out preliminary inquiries and investigations in private it is not proposed to disclose the names of the files sought by the tribunal. The tribunal of inquiry chaired by Mr. Justice Moriarty has not sought any files from the Department.
