Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Radio Broadcasting.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

162 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will examine the contents of a letter (details supplied) in relation to broadcasting of European radio programmes in Ireland; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7291/99]

I have examined the letter supplied by the Deputy. Council Directive 92/100/EEC is in the process of being transposed into Irish law through the proposed Copyright and Related Rights Bill which is sponsored by my colleague, the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and which, I understand, will be published shortly. I understand that EU directives on copyright and related rights do not have effect in relation to the regulation of broadcasting and convey no rights in that area.
