Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Ivan Yates

Question:

174 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the circumstances will be investigated relating to a recent conviction in Carlow District Court whereby a person (details supplied) in County Wexford had provided to his local Garda station full details of his driver's licence and his current certificate of insurance for a specific period and was convicted for not having either of these due to the fact that the gardaí had not relayed them to the prosecuting authorities including the Garda authorities from a different area; if he will seek an explanation for this; and the steps, if any, which will be taken to ensure that the person will not be penalised for the breakdown in communications within the Garda. [7347/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that their inquiries into the circumstances of the case referred to by the Deputy are not yet complete. As soon as I have a full report on this case, I will communicate further with the Deputy.
