Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Passports for Investment Scheme.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

176 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has satisfied himself that all records arising from the involvement of former Taoisigh in the passport for investment scheme are still available in his Department; if not, if he has advised the Moriarty tribunal regarding the existence and location of these records; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7362/99]

Records related to each application made under the investment-based naturalisation scheme are contained on Departmental files. It is not possible to say with certainty that these files contain all the records of the type referred to by the Deputy.

As I have already informed the House on several occasions recently, files related to the naturalisation of 128 persons, as well as four policy files have already been sent to the Moriarty tribunal.

I will continue to co-operate with the tribunal in every possible way.

Question:

177 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department has sought the return of records relating to the passport for investment scheme from members of the then Government in the period 1988 to 1994 in order to comply with orders of production from the Moriarty tribunal; if so, the response to date arising from these requests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7364/99]

Neither I, nor officials in my Department, are aware of the existence of any such records.
