Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cattle Smuggling.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

67 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position of the Garda investigation into the seizure of a consignment of cattle at a plant (details supplied) which was believed to have been smuggled from Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7212/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 54 of 4 February 1999. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the incident to which the question refers is being investigated by the special investigation unit of the Department of Agriculture and Food. I understand the Garda has provided and will continue to provide assistance where requested to do so by officials from the Department of Agriculture and Food in relation to the investigation.
