Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Disciplinary Proceedings.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

83 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the latest position in regard to disciplinary action against a garda (details supplied) who was convicted of serious offences arising from an incident in Portarlington, County Laois, in which a pedestrian was killed and the driver left the scene of the accident; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7210/99]

I dealt with this matter in some detail in my reply to Question No. 10 from the late Deputy Upton on 4 February 1999.

I am informed by the Garda authorities the latest position is that a disciplinary inquiry board has been appointed by the Garda Commissioner and that the inquiry has been convened for Tuesday, 27 April 1999.
