Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

280 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide a breakdown of all national lottery funding allocated by his Department in 1998; the individual bodies to which funds were allocated; the amount in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7921/99]

In 1998, my Department was responsible for the following national lottery allocations: subhead G; Gaeleagras na Seirbhíse Poiblí £135,000; and subhead N; Charitable Lotteries Fund £5,448,000.

This fund makes available from the proceeds of the national lottery approximately £5 million per annum to supplement the income of the promoters of private charitable lotteries whose products are competing directly with national lottery products. The criteria used in allocating the funds among applicants were recommended by an interdepartmental advisory committee with an independent chairperson and approved by the Minister for Finance.
