Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Liz McManus

Question:

330 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children when paediatric cover will be provided for the accident and emergency department at St. Columcille's Hospital, Louglinstown, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7846/99]

The provision of accident and emergency services at St Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown, is a matter, in the first instance, for the Eastern Health Board. I understand from the board that the level of accident and emergency consultant cover at St. Columcille's Hospital and, indeed, across the south-east Dublin region is under examination at present by a joint sub-committee of the South-East Dublin Departments of Surgery and Medicine.

In addition, the chairmen of the three Dublin paediatric hospitals have agreed to set up a joint council to identify specific actions needed to facilitate necessary changes and development in the delivery of paediatric services in the Dublin area. My Department has indicated its approval to the establishment of this forum. It is intended that the joint council will be in a position to report before the end of the year and the issue of the provision of paediatric services to Dublin south-east has already been identified by my Department as an area which we wish to have the council's views on.
