Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Assisted Human Reproduction.

Liz McManus

Question:

357 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the provision, if any, made for couples who need access to IVF treatment who are above the income limit for the general medical services but cannot afford to pay the cost of attending for this treatment privately; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7958/99]

IVF treatment is not part of the publicly funded health service. Persons who avail of the service do so in a private capacity. They are eligible for tax relief on medical expenses and receive assistance with the cost of drugs under the drugs refund-subsidy schemes.
