Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

John Gormley

Question:

365 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children the representations, if any, he has received from Laois General Hospital Action Committee in relation to its campaign to obtain approval from the Midland Health Board to provide intravenous chemotherapy in the general hospital, Portlaoise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7985/99]

I have received representations from a number of sources on behalf of Portlaoise General Hospital on this issue, including representations from the Laois General Hospital Action Committee. In each case I have indicated that the implementation of the plan adopted by the Midland Health Board to develop cancer treatment services in the region is a matter for the board. Towards this end, I have allocated a total of £0.450 million to the Midland Health Board in 1999 to enable the board to commence the implementation of its plan this year.
