Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Inter-country Adoptions.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

370 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Adoption Board decided in October 1998 that all post placement reports in respect of adopted children from Russia would be channelled through it to the Russian authorities; if the board has set up proper procedures with the Russian authorities for the transmission of the post placement reports; if so, the procedures in this regard; if the board is aware of any post placement reports which were falsified prior to their transmission to Russia; if so, the number in this regard; if he will reassure Dáil Éireann that all post placement reports have been received by the necessary authorities in Russia; if he will instruct the board to confirm this in writing to the families involved without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8033/99]

The Adoption Board is an independent statutory agency established under the Adoption Act, 1952. The operational procedures used by the board are a matter for the board itself. I have referred Deputy Stagg's query to the Registrar of the Adoption Board for direct reply.
