Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

408 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason £500,000 requested by Cork Corporation to begin construction of the link road from Curraheen Road to Androstig Cross was not provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7752/99]

Cork Corporation application for funding for six road improvement projects in 1999 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants. Three projects, to a total of £650,000 were selected for funding as follows: R600 Kinsale Road, £200,000; R610 Clontarf Bridge, £200,000; and R852 Boreennamanagh Road Phase 1, £250,000.

The road in question was not sufficiently high on the corporation's list of priorities to receive funding in 1999 in the light of competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available under the scheme.
