Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Housing Initiative.

John Gormley

Question:

412 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has any contact with an organisation (details supplied) in Dublin 2; his views on this initiative; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7826/99]

The organisation referred to wrote to my Department seeking guidance as to the most suitable next step to allow them to realise their plans to provide housing for their members on a co-housing basis.

My Department replied referring to the schemes of assistance available for voluntary and non-profit housing, provided information on how to obtain approved voluntary body status in order to qualify under the capital assistance and rental subsidy schemes, and advised the organisation to contact their local authority who could assist in developing their proposals and perhaps assist with the location of suitable sites. The principles of the organisation, as set out in its leaflet, appear commendable.
