518 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department has advertised for civilian drivers to supplement serving gardaí; if so, when these advertisements were placed; when interviews were held; and if the positions have been filled. [7651/99]

A competition for the recruitment of civilian drivers was advertised in the national papers on 10, 11 and 13 September 1998. The Garda authorities have informed me that candidates are currently being shortlisted and that interviews/practical tests are expected to be arranged in the near future.
